Demonte Smith

Warren Central Demonte Smith has committed to play football for Georgetown College in the fall.
Smith rushed for 1,033 yards and 12 touchdowns this past season for the Dragons.

Central hopes for four more

Warren Central football coach Mike Rogers hopes four more of his senior football players will sign letters of intent to play college football next season.
Athlete Cortez Barber, fullback Demonte Smith, nosetackle Youphin Yeurn and defensive end Marvin Miles are all undecided.
Barber, an All-State selection at cornerback, was visited by Austin Peay this week and could field an offer soon. Smith, who rushed for 1,033 yards and 12 touchdowns, has decided not to pursue the Army. He said he and Greenwood linebacker Jeremy James will take a trip to Centre College this week. UT-Martin and Campbellsville are also on his list.
Rogers said Miles and Yeurn continue to explore their options and will likely play at the NAIA level.

Smith, Biggs, Tarrence and Edelen

Warren Central senior Demonte Smith said he enjoyed his visit to Eastern Kentucky this past weekend along with teammates Cortez Barber and Jonathan Thompson. Smith said next up on the list is Tennessee-Martin, where he hopes to visit soon.

At Bowling Green, seniors Adrienne Tarrence and Rudy Edelen will make their college decisions official on Wednesday. Tarrence will ink with Belmont to play basketball while Edelen will sign a letter of intent to swim for the University of Louisville.

Warren East senior Mark Biggs, who verbally committed to Louisville in the spring to play baseball, will sign on the dotted line on Wednesday afternoon at WEHS.

Cortez Barber

Warren Central’s Cortez Barber continues to garner interest from Division I programs around the region. WCHS Coach Mike Rogers said coaches from Arkansas State and Tennessee State have called this week to inquire about the running back/kick returner/cornerback.
Barber came into the season having received interest from UT-Martin, Murray State, Eastern Kentucky, Southern Illinois, and his hometown’s Western Kentucky, who continues to be in contact.
The senior has 429 yards rushing, 136 receiving, a kickoff return for a TD, a fumble recovery, a blocked field goal and 12 tackles.

Rogers also said fullback/linebacker Demonte Smith has begun to see a flurry of new interest as well, although he would not elaborate on specific schools at this time. Smith said a couple weeks ago he and the Army have been in talks about the senior’s football future.

Demonte Smith

Warren Central’s Demonte Smith doesn’t just want to play college football, he wants to play for the United States Army.
Smith said Thursday he’s working to get his standardized tests scores up so he can qualify to enlist at West Point next fall. The Dragons’ senior leads the team in rushing (336 yards) and tackles (32.5) this season.
Smith said he has sent his info to the Army and they’ve “been in touch” with him as well.
